Digital Manuscript Library

The publication of digital manuscript sets comes in conformity with the BA's mission to adopt modern digital technologies. Every set comprises seven CDs with an unabridged rare manuscript each. The first collection includes selections from the Alexandria Municipal Library's manuscripts currently held by the BA, namely: Qasīdat al-Burda- ‘The Garment Poem’ by al-Būsīrī; Dīwān Salāma bin-Jandal- ‘The Divan of Salāma bin-Jandal’; al-Zīj al-Jāmi‘ ‘The Comprehensive Ephemeris’ by Kūšiyār al-Jīlī; Ghiyāth al-Umam fī al-Tiyāth al-Zulam- ‘Nations’ Succor from the Madness of Darkness’ by al-Juwaynī; al-Badī‘ fī Naqd al-Ši‘r- ‘The Exquisite in Poetry Criticism’ by Usāma bin-Munqidh; al-Luma‘ fī al-Nahw- ‘Highlights in Grammar’ by Ibn Jinnī; and al-Tārīkh al-Kabīr- ‘The Great History’ by al-Maqrīzī. The second set represents some of the rarities of the Islamic heritage collection in the mosque of al-‘Ārif bi-Allāh Abūl-‘Abbās al-Mursī: al-Islāh wa al-Īdāh- ‘Refinement and Clarification’ by Ibn Kamāl Pasha; Dīwān al-Arīb fī Mukhtasar Mughnī al-Labīb- ‘The Witty’s Divan of the Compendium of Mughnī al-Labīb’ by al-Sāmūlī; Khulāsat al-Hisāb- ‘Compendium of Arithmetic’ by al-‘Āmilī; Talkhīs al-Bayān ‘an Majāzāt al-Qur’ān- ‘Compendium of Rhetoric on the Metaphors of the Qur’an’ by al-Šarīf al-Radī; Majmū‘at Rasā’il fī al-Isturlāb- ‘Collection of Treatises on the Astrolabe’ by different authors; Jāmi‘ al-Masānīd wa al-Alqāb- ‘The Comprehensive Book on Ascriptions and Epithets’ by Ibn al-Jawzī; and Risāla fī ‘Ilm al-Hay’a- ‘Treatise on Astronomy’ by Ibn al-Haytham. Work is ongoing to release the third collection from the manuscripts of the Religious Institute of Smūha. It is noteworthy that the Manuscript Center is currently working on the publication of a digital manuscript collection of the codices held by Uppsala University Library, Sweden, within the framework of a bilateral cooperation agreement concluded between the two countries.
