Heritage Continuity
(25 -27 May 2010)
SECOND CIRCULAR
Dear Conference
Participants and Friends,
This second circular holds
all the available information to date, including information on accommodation,
travel, and the activities prepared by Conference organizers. All this
information and future updates, in addition to the preliminary program and
participants’ list, are also available on the Conference website:
Please
review the preliminary program on the Conference website. If you have submitted
a paper, please, check that your details are correct. For some papers we have
not received the abstracts or bios yet, please, provide us with them as soon as
possible specifying the technical equipment requirements needed if you have not
indicated them in your registration form. We also need an e-copy of the full
paper to be delivered on May 10 at the very latest. Not only we want to provide
the audience with this information, but also we need some information on your
papers and yourselves in advance for the benefit of the colleagues chairing the
respective sessions.
Please
remember that the paper presentations should not exceed 25 minutes.
2.
Publishing Guidelines
The
Manuscript Center publishes each year one volume containing a select number of
papers presented during its annual conference in the form of conference
proceedings. We thus urge our contributors to adhere to the highest possible
standards of research writing followed by the most internationally acclaimed
academic journals, such as: the Cambridge Journal of Arabic Sciences and
Philosophy; Brill’s Vetus Testamentum; the Medieval Academy’s Speculum, inter
alia. These are only examples to demonstrate the quality of research we are
after. Papers failing to follow these guidelines will not be accepted for
publication in our proceedings, which we spare no effort to produce in the most
beautiful and most rigorous form.
3.VISA REGULATIONS
Non-Egyptian visitors arriving in Egypt are required to hold valid passports.
Entry visas may be obtained from the Egyptian Diplomatic and Consular Missions
abroad or from the Entry Visa Department at the Egyptian Travel Documents,
Immigration and Nationality Administration (TDINA).
4.Transport
Getting
around in Alexandria
Although a
network of tramways and buses serves most areas in Alexandria, taxis are
recommended as the easiest and inexpensive mean to get around in Alexandria.
City streets teem with black-and-yellow taxis ()
that can be stopped anywhere by waving to the driver.
Taxi fares range from EGP 5.00 for short rides to EGP 30.00 for the farthest
destination, depending on traffic flow and traffic jams. A good online map of
Alexandria is available at:
The
Manuscript Center has arranged a bus to pick you up from and back to the hotel
during Conference days.
From Airport
All airports in Egypt have a taxi service to city centers. Airport taxis are
operated on a flat fee basis (ask your airlines or the information desk at the
airport).
Kindly
note that the Manuscript Center is to arrange cars to meet you at the airport in
case you confirmed your flight details a week prior to Conference Opening.
