SECOND CIRCULAR

This second circular holds all the available information to date, including information on accommodation, travel, and the activities prepared by Conference organizers.

  1.               Papers and program

Please review the preliminary program on the Conference website. If you have submitted a paper, please, check that your details are correct. For some papers we have not received the abstracts yet, please, provide us with the abstracts as soon as possible specifying the technical equipment requirements needed if you have not indicated them in your registration form. We also need an e-copy of the full paper to be delivered on April 30 at the very latest. Not only we want to provide the audience with this information, but also we need some information on your papers and yourselves in advance for the benefit of the colleagues chairing the respective sessions.

Please remember that the paper presentations should not exceed 25 minutes.

2.               VISA REGULATIONS

Non-Egyptian visitors arriving in Egypt are required to hold valid passports. Entry visas may be obtained from the Egyptian Diplomatic and Consular Missions abroad or from the Entry Visa Department at the Egyptian Travel Documents, Immigration and Nationality Administration (TDINA). It is, however, possible for most tourists and visitors to obtain an entry visa at any of the major ports of entry at a cost of around US$ 15.00. Please check with your nearest Egyptian Consulate for more details concerning visa regulations applying to your citizenship.

3.            Transport

Getting around in Alexandria

Although a network of tramways and buses serves most areas in Alexandria, taxis are recommended as the easiest and inexpensive mean to get around in Alexandria. City streets teem with black-and-yellow taxis ( ) that can be stopped anywhere by waving to the driver. Taxi fares range from EGP 5.00 for short rides to EGP 30.00 for the farthest destination, depending on traffic flow and traffic jams. A good online map of Alexandria is available at:

http://www.alex4all.com/tree/map/map1/indexmap.html

The Manuscript Center has arranged a bus to pick you up from and back to the hotel during Conference days.

            From Airport

All airports in Egypt have a taxi service to city centers. Airport taxis are operated on a flat fee basis (ask your airlines or the information desk at the airport).

Kindly note that the Manuscript Center is to arrange cars to meet you at the airport in case you confirmed your flight details a week prior to Conference Opening.

The exchange rate fluctuates and changes daily.  You can check the current rate on-line at http://www.xe.com/ucc.You do not need to change money prior to arrival as currency exchange offices and ATM machines are all over the city. Most currency exchange locations are open 7 days a week, but banks are closed on Fridays and Saturdays.

May is a fairly hot month in Egypt. The weather should be hot in daytime (about 28 °C) and mildly warm in the evenings after sunset (about 15.1 °C). It is advised to pack up some light as well as warm clothes as a wise precaution.
